A female caregiver and a seven-year-old girl were seriously injured in a knife attack at an elementary school in Esslingen, Baden-Württemberg, on Friday. A suspect is on the run, police in Reutlingen said. According to the report, the attack occurred around 08:00 in the morning. The two victims were in the vacation care in the closed school.
There, the unknown attacked them and then fled, the police explained. The 61-year-old woman and the child were taken to a hospital seriously injured with cuts – there was no danger to life.
The officials were still on the scene in the late morning with a large contingent. A helicopter was also deployed. The background and the course of the crime initially remained unclear.
Officials warned that the fugitive man might still be armed with a knife. Initially, police had neither confirmed nor denied the knife attack.
