CABOT EXPANDS ITS PORTFOLIO OF WORLD-CLASS GOLF DESTINATIONS WITH THE ACQUISITION OF CASTLE STUART IN SCOTLAND

>

Toronto (ots/PRNewswire) – Celebrated Canadian Developer Announces First European Project

Cabot, the developer and operator of master-planned golf resort communities, announces the acquisition of Castle Stuart in the Scottish Highlands. The centerpiece of the iconic property, soon to be known as Cabot Highlands, is Castle Stuart Golf Links, ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. Like all Cabot properties, Cabot Highlands will offer stunning surroundings, world-class golf, exciting real estate opportunities and exceptional service.

“Castle Stuart has been considered the benchmark for exceptional Scottish golf since it opened thirteen years ago. We are honored to manage the land and continue the original vision for the property,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot. “Our goal is to create unforgettable memories in magical places, and there are few places in the world more awe-inspiring than the Scottish Highlands.”

Castle Stuart is located just five minutes from Inverness Airport and within driving distance of some of the region’s most famous golf courses, including Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Brora and Skibo Castle, and is part of the rich golf offering in the Scottish Highlands. The course runs along the coast of the Moray Firth, offering panoramic views and famous landmarks such as Kessock Bridge and Chanonry Lighthouse. Designed by the late Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse, Castle Stuart’s rugged natural landscape can be described as a throwback to the golf of old. The course features holes framed by water on one side and bluffs on the other, with jagged fairway contours and infinitely shaped greens that appear to perch on cliffs directly above the sea. The property also features an Art Deco-inspired clubhouse, practice facility and putting green. A new short course is already available for play and is scheduled to open for the 2023 season.

Cabot plans to build a second golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak. The course is located on a pristine piece of land and will be built around the 400-year-old Castle Stuart. The course will feature natural contours, meander through slopes and vast open land, and have several holes along the water. Design of the course will begin in the fall of 2022, with construction scheduled to begin in 2023 and opening in 2024.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Ben Cowan-Dewar and the Cabot team,” said Tom Doak, architect. “We have been searching for the perfect destination for years. Our goal is to create a distinctive Scottish golf experience that appeals to players of all skill levels, with an authentic links-style golf course that puts the golf holes front and center.”

properties will be an important part of the community, with sales expected to begin in 2023. The old estate will offer cottages with upscale, modern touches inspired by Scotland’s alluring landscape. When the homeowners are not present, their homes will be available as luxury accommodations for guests. The Cabot Highlands building will feature retail stores, restaurants and community gathering spaces. In addition to golf, the destination offers incredible natural beauty and numerous outdoor activities including hiking, biking, fishing, falconry, horseback riding and more. The nearby city of Inverness is just ten minutes away and offers the opportunity to experience the vibrant Scottish culture with its Victorian-era markets, cathedrals, museums and restaurants. The Inverness area is also home to some of Scotland’s finest whisky distilleries, many of which offer tours and tastings throughout the year.

“I couldn’t think of a better partner than Cabot to lead our next chapter. The work that has been done at Cabot Cape Breton on the golf courses and in the community speaks for itself, and I know our beloved founder, Mark Parsinen, would be proud of the plans ahead to realize his original vision for the destination,” said Stuart McColm, general manager of Castle Stuart and the future Cabot Highlands. “This is not only important news for golf, but also a major boost for the regional economy in the Highlands.”

Cabot Highlands is the perfect addition to Cabot’s growing portfolio of luxury properties surrounded by world-class golf courses. The collection includes the award-winning Cabot Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Cabot Saint Lucia, scheduled to open in early 2023, and Cabot Revelstoke, under construction in British Columbia. Cabot recently announced the acquisition of its first U.S. property in Florida, soon to be known as Cabot Citrus Farms. Each Cabot property is based on a strong sense of place and the philosophy that truly great landscapes will stand the test of time. The land of a Cabot property dictates how the fairways will run, where the greens will be located and how the homes will live in harmony amidst the pristine natural surroundings.
