Despite advertising affair and massive criticism of ÖVP’s transparency report, business association does not want clear rules on faction financing in the WKO
Vienna (OTS) – Today, the Green Economy again demanded the introduction of clear, comprehensible and transparent rules on the financing of parliamentary groups in the Economic Chamber in the Extended Presidium of the WKÖ. “Despite the recently publicized scandals surrounding the finances of the ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund and the ÖVP, there is no realization that clear, comprehensible and transparent rules are also needed in the Economic Chamber as to how the political work of the parliamentary groups is to be financed. The Economic Chamber as an overall organization thus falls far short of the requirements that would be appropriate for a public institution in Central Europe,” Sabine Jungwirth, federal spokeswoman of the Green Economy, criticizes the blockade attitude of the ÖVP economic federation leaders. “We owe it to the Unternehmer:innen to report transparently on the use of the compulsory membership fees. In addition it belongs for me also to present, in which height and with which distribution key the political parliamentary groups in the WKO are financed. The chamber must finally put an end to the wheeling and dealing and make the figures publicly available. It is really embarrassing that there is no insight whatsoever to comply with minimum democratic standards,” concludes Jungwirth.
For years, the Green Economy has published the [balance sheets on the website] (https://www.gruenewirtschaft.at/ueber-uns/transparenz/) after the decision to close the accounts at the General Assembly and calls on all other groups to follow this example.
The WKO’s estimates and financial statements are also published on the Green Economy website. The latest available data can be found at [WK Glasklar]
