More than 300 global leaders meet in Miami this week to discuss sustainability

Miami (ots/PRNewswire) – IDB Invest is kicking off its first flagship event since the onset of the global pandemic, a week-long conference with more than 300 leaders from around the world convening in Miami June 28-July 1, 6,000 virtually connected to discuss how the private sector can play a leading role in ensuring sustainable economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Themed “From Thinkers to Doers,” the event will feature more than 100 speakers and 50 panel discussions on the most pressing sustainability issues: Climate action, sustainable value chains, digital transformation, just transition, financial innovation, and small and island states.

“Sustainable business is the only business that will help Latin America and the Caribbean overcome their challenges. The private sector needs knowledge, experience and innovative financial tools to move forward with bold action,” said James P. Keynote speakers include IDB Invest CEO James P. Scriven, Chief Strategy Officer Alexandre Meira da Rosa, Chief Investment Officer Gema Sacristán and Chief Finance Officer Orlando Ferreira, and IDB Chief Economist Eric Parrado.

Prominent business leaders include Kara Kurst, vice president of global sustainability at Amazon; Joe Koechlin, CEO of Peruvian ecotourism company Inkaterra; and Teresa Vernaglia, CEO of Brazilian company BRK Ambiental.

The role of the private sector in addressing sustainability challenges and meeting broad commitments to net-zero emissions and decarbonization investments in line with the Paris Agreement will be a recurring theme.

Specific climate change and tourism issues facing small and island countries will be addressed in discussions with Mike Maura, CEO of Nassau Cruise Port, and Selwin Hart, Special Advisor and Assistant Secretary-General for Climate Policy at the United Nations.
