Vienna (OTS) – Better air conditioning and new cameras for additional safety will bring a modernization program for the 14 low-floor vehicles of Badner Bahn. As part of the retrofit, the old air conditioning systems are being replaced with modern heating, cooling and ventilation units. Test measurements have shown that this will lower the temperature inside the vehicles by around five degrees compared with the previous system, thus increasing passenger comfort during the hot season. Half of the trains have already been converted and are in service on the line. The other trains will be retrofitted in stages by the fall.
More comfort and safety for passengers
“The rising temperatures are direct consequences of the climate crisis that we are all feeling. In public transportation, too. We want to continuously make public transport more attractive for our passengers in order to promote the switch from cars to climate-friendly mobility. I am therefore very pleased that we are comprehensively modernizing the Badner Bahn fleet with this measure,” says Vienna’s public transport councillor Peter Hanke.
Ludwig Schleritzko, Lower Austria’s regional councilor for mobility, adds:
“Comfort is an important argument in the choice of transport for commuters. We see that in times of rising fuel prices, even more people are switching to public transport. The conversion of the trains is an important contribution to making the switch to the Badner Bahn even more attractive.”
New and additional video cameras in the trains
As part of the vehicle modernization, security in the trains will also be improved. The existing video cameras will be renewed and additional cameras will be installed. If necessary, the recordings can be made available to the police during investigations.
“Passenger comfort and safety are essential aspects for our passengers. With this vehicle modernization, we are working to further improve our quality and service and to make the Badner Bahn a climate-friendly alternative to private cars for even more people,” says Monika Unterholzner, Managing Director of Wiener Lokalbahnen, the operator of the Badner Bahn.
