President Wilfing, LR Schleritzko: “Wolfgang Schroll has raised public transport in Lower Austria to a high level”.
St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) – Since June 2002, Wolfgang Schroll, a geographer by training, has been working with energy and commitment as Managing Director of the Transport Association for the Eastern Region (VOR) for clean, affordable and climate-friendly public transport in Lower Austria. And he has been successful in doing so: in the meantime, the VOR’s services are used by passengers around one billion times a year. In his 2 decades as a “VOR thinker”, numerous milestones have been set to improve the service: First and foremost, the introduction of the Top-Jugendticket (top youth ticket) to enable young people to use public transport at a reasonable price, the reorganization of the regional bus system in Lower Austria, the simplification of the fare system or, most recently, the implementation of an overall climate ticket package.
Milestones that, for Lower Austria’s mobility provincial councilor Ludwig Schleritzko, can be attributed to a special characteristic of Wolfgang Schroll: “Drilling hard boards is his particular specialty. Once he has set himself a goal, he pursues it with his characteristic tenacity and energy and usually achieves it. In this way, he has raised public transport in Lower Austria to a higher level and achieved so much of what we as the province of Lower Austria have set out to do together with the VOR over the past 20 years.”
However, it is not only his drive to score that distinguishes the jubilarian, but also his competence, as the current VOR Supervisory Board Chairman, Lower Austria’s President of the Provincial Parliament Karl Wilfing, adds: “With Wolfgang Schroll, the VOR has had a top expert in public transport for 20 years, whose achievements we can hardly underestimate. Hundreds of thousands of passengers benefit every day from his internationally recognized know-how and his networking in the field of public transport.” Accordingly, the two state politicians are pleased that the 58-year-old will remain with the VOR for some time to come.
“The to-do list for the coming months is still long. Climate crisis or rising energy costs are just two of the current challenges that affordable public transport will have to solve in the coming years. With Wolfgang Schroll as Managing Director at the VOR, we have experience and competence. His 20th anniversary will therefore not have been the last,” Wilfing and Schleritzko are certain.
