24-year-old Syrian man allegedly killed his own mother; this year already the fourth murder of women in Styria; FPÖ demands effective measures against violence against women.
Graz (OTS) – As the “Steirerkrone” reported online today, a 24-year-old Syrian is suspected of having killed his own mother. The bloody deed is said to have happened as early as Monday night in the southern Styrian town of Wagna. Since then, the alleged perpetrator, who lived with the 41-year-old in a shared apartment, is on the run. With the shocking bloody act it might concern the fourth woman murder in the Steiermark, which took place this year. Throughout Austria, 18 women have already been killed this year by their partner, ex-partner or another male person from their close environment. “The suspected murder of the 41-year-old is shocking and joins the numerous violent crimes against women in recent months. In Styria alone, four women have already lost their lives this year due to an act of violence,” FPÖ women’s spokeswoman Helga Kügerl is concerned. “The massively increased acts of violence against women committed in recent months, especially by non-Austrians, are a loud alarm signal. It needs finally effective measures, in order to prevent such murder cases”, so Kügerl. Also the district party chairman of the FPÖ Leibnitz Gerhard Hirschmann shows shock at the incident. “It is frightening that such a murder case happens in a market town like Wagna. The fact that it is apparently once again a suspect from the Arab region, can look deep. Increasing violence by foreigners is no longer just an urban problem, but is spreading throughout the country. With each additional act of violence committed by non-Austrians, it becomes clear that the problem is obviously imported to a large extent,” said Hirschmann, who is concerned and demands concrete steps against the increasing foreigner violence.
