September 2: Extended opening hours until 11 p.m. and colorful show program at many Viennese markets
Vienna (OTS) – Market fans take note: For the first time, the long night of Viennese markets will take place on Friday, September 2, 2022. The market stalls will be open until 11 p.m. at all participating markets, and the extended shopping experience will be embedded in a colorful supporting program. More than 40 performances by a wide variety of artists and show acts will lend the event a cheerful flair. Visitors can expect a pleasant environment that encourages them to stroll and linger: Night shopping at the highest level. “I am looking forward to this first-time event and hope for many night-time visitors to our markets. With a wide variety of offers and events, we want to make them even more attractive,” says City Councilor Ulli Sima, who is responsible for markets. As agreed in the red-pink government program, Vienna’s markets are to be further revitalized in the coming years. The efforts made so far are already bearing fruit; only recently a new record number of visitors to Vienna’s markets was reported – 387,600 guests visited Vienna’s markets per week in May and enjoyed the range of fresh fruit, vegetables and other delicacies on offer.
“The Long Night of the Markets” is intended to help bring even more Viennese closer to the diverse range of products and also the shopping experience at Vienna’s markets. The goal is a sustainable, additional revitalization of the Viennese markets and the development of new target groups for the market stallholders. In any case, it will be a celebration for all the senses,” Markus Ornig, NEOS Vienna market spokesman, is pleased about the first long night of the Vienna markets.
