The Austrian Students’ Union founds the EPU together with six international student organizations.
Vienna (OTS) – On Friday, August 12, the Austrian Students’ Union started a creative and open brainstorming around the topic of youth and Europe with an “Open Lab” in the Vienna City Park. Together with young people from Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, Albania and Montenegro, as well as interested passers-by, cross-border topics were collected that are currently of concern to young people. In the afternoon the official foundation of the European Pupils Union (short: EPU) took place. The EPU was founded by the Austrian Pupils Union in the presence of other friendly international (pupil) organizations in order to promote international work and educational exchange as a brand and foundation.
“The EPU, as we have founded it today, is to function as a sustainable foundation for the international Europe-wide networking of student organizations. Especially in times like these, when there is a war in Europe, for example, cross-national cooperation and mutual “backing” is all the more important. Across national borders, even more new and innovative ideas emerge, which we will use for our representation work. Every European country is diverse in its own way and it is precisely this diversity that the EPU reflects,” says Carina Reithmaier, Federal Chairwoman of the Student Union.
In the self-conception of the EPU it is called: “(…) Independently of domestic political conditions we provide young European:inside for the fact that Europe moves a piece more near together and give pupil:inside a voice on European-wide level. (…)”. Another goal of the EPU is to strengthen each other as student organizations by, among other things, exchanging experiences and closing ranks across Europe.
“On the occasion of the European Year of Youth, we are ready to go one step further and to set new stones rolling by founding the EPU. Stones that build bridges across national borders. According to the motto of the Council of the European Union, we are ready to get involved in Europe!”, says the international secretary of the Students’ Union David Mantler.
The pupils’ union is with over 30,000 members the largest pupil:inside organization of Austria, in which the members engage themselves honorary. By its various service offer, as for example the school right emergency call and various training further, it is considered as important approach place for pupils. It also puts forward its demands in the Federal Students’ Representative Council (BSV), in which it holds 22 of 29 mandates in the 2021/22 school year. The federal school spokeswoman Susanna Öllinger also comes from the pupils’ union.
